Prominent Impressionists
Every movement has its’ prominent members, and impressionism is no exception to that rule. Take Oscar-Claude Monet, perhaps the most well-known impressionist painter. It was a critical review on his painting Impression, Sunrise that first used the term impressionist. Claude Monet was a pioneer in the field of impressionism, and the fact that he had poor eyesight makes his achievements even more impressive.
Another famous impressionist was Pierre-Auguste Renoir, like Claude Monet, he too was a Frenchman. His notable works include Bal du moulin de la Galette and Luncheon of the Boating Party, but he is also well-known because of his nude-paintings, being especially fond of feminine beauty. His impressionist works often include people, which makes them more about atmosphere than about colour in itself.
Other honourable impressionists include: Eugène Delacroix, Gustave Courbet, Théodore Rousseau, Frédéric Bazille, Gustave Caillebotte, Mary Cassatt, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Armand Guillaumin, Édouard Manet, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley and Marie Bracquemond. All of the artists stated above helped to establish impressionism in France.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir, a prominent Impressionist artist. He was born in 1841, in the village of Limoges, France. He was an aspiring singer, but his family's financial circumstances did not allow him to continue his music lessons. So he decided to follow his other talent; painting.
